Edition 6 - The Nature Filled North
This Week at Finn
This week consisted of engaging projects and tasks. I have officially sent out my first media pitch to a medical technology magazine in the hope of getting coverage for one of our clients, MedAware. On Tuesday, my supervisor arranged a meeting for the interns with Rafi, someone who used to work for Finn Partners Israel but now works as the Director of Media Communications doing in-house PR at an Israeli start-up called OrCam. Rafi spoke to us about the differences between working in a public relations agency and working in-house for an organization. He also touched upon client relations and how acting on the client side of public relations has been a very different experience than working on the business side. He then pulled out OrCam’s most recent product and showed us how it works. The OrCam MyEye 2 is an incredibly advanced form of wearable technology for anyone who is blind or visually impaired. It reads text, recognizes faces, and identifies products among other extraordinary capabilities. Having the ability to watch this device in action and understand the incredible strides that medical technology is making was astonishing. Every day I walk into Finn Partners and help medical technology, non-profit, and other types of organizations receive the publicity and attention that they deserve. However, physically watching the abilities of one of these startups and recognizing how this technology can alter the life of someone was completely eye-opening.
Weekday Beer Festival
This week was Jerusalem’s Beer Fest at First Station. A couple of my friends and I decided to go after work and try out one of the restaurants at First Station - we ended up eating at Blondie, a craft beer and grilled cheese restaurant. A bunch of participants from my program decided to check out the rest of the festival so we ended up walking around and trying a few beers for a couple of hours. It was a lively atmosphere and a nice break for the middle of the work week.
The Weekend Up North
This weekend one of my roommates, Samantha, and I decided to take a little trip up north to Haifa. While on this little weekend adventure, we went on a hike to Nesher Park and the suspended, hanging bridges in the park. The view was gorgeous, and the hike was just what we needed after sitting on a bus for a couple of hours the night before. Then, that night we traveled to downtown Haifa to take on a culinary adventure at Hanamal 24, a restaurant that combines Italian and authentic Middle Eastern cuisine into one location. This fine dining experience was extraordinary… plus having a Culinary Nutrition student with me made the experience more meaningful. After dinner, we walked around downtown Haifa to see what else the city had to offer. The next morning, we came back to Jerusalem to relax in the city that we know and love.
On Sunday, we had a day off of work so a few of us decided to adventure to a new part of Jerusalem for a bit of a hike/nature walk. Did we get lost and maybe not plan out public transportation as well as we should have? Sure… but that doesn't mean that the experience was any less exciting or the view was any less beautiful.
